Softtek buys exclusive rights for the 'Macarena'

MONTERREY, Mexico – April 1, 2011 – Softtek, provider of process-driven IT services that increase the business value of Fortune 1000 organizations’ application portfolios, today announced an agreement regarding the purchase of exclusive rights to the popular hit song "Macarena" from its creators, the Spanish group “Los del Rio.”

The 1996 "#1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder” (VH1) Spanish dance song became a global icon for Softtek, as it was in the same year the company launched its flagship nearshore services with the United States. Fifteen years later, the Macarena continues to have a cult following.

“Nearshore” is a delivery model created and proven right by Softtek in 1996, originally known as Near Shore® among other Softtek offerings. The model argued doing work closer to home, as opposed to offshore, for productivity reasons. At that time it started servicing its first Fortune 50 clients in the USA, from Mexico. Since then, Softtek has become the icon of nearshore, and has expanded its original value proposition to include state-of-the-art processes, governance models, continuous improvement practices and delivery from Europe and Asia.

“We’re very proud of our accomplishments within the Nearshore sphere but also as a competitor in the broader playing grounds of IT outsourcing,” said Beni Lopez, Softtek's  Chief Globalization Officer. “Undeniably, we can attribute some of these to the best practices shared in the hit album 'Macarena'.”

What started as a catchy song about a woman with the same name, the "Macarena" boomed shortly after its release in 1996. That same year, Softtek’s long-standing vision of the nearshore concept took reign.

To celebrate its 15 years of Nearshore, Softtek has also announced that it has hired Los del Rio as part of its executive team to help reach out to the generation that grew with the song. This involvement of the new members is now occupying decision-making positions at global Fortune 1000 organizations.

"The way they [Los del Rio] made the world dance in a synchronized fashion to their rhythm was overwhelming—something we need to learn from, and make happen again," added Blanca Treviño, Softtek CEO and President.
