We’re excited to announce that Softtek CEO Blanca Treviño will be joining business luminaries and heads of state at the II CEO Summit of the Americas, taking place April 9-10th this week in Panama City, Panama. The event, a joint effort by the government of the Republic of Panama and the Inter-American Development Bank, is a gathering of “…Heads of State and business leaders of the region to analyze the opportunities for trade and investment, as well as the priorities for the social and economic development of the Americas,” according to the conference website. The debut summit was held three years ago in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. The high-level summit precedes the VII Summit of the Americas taking place April 10-11, which is gaining media attention, like this article in the Washington Post, in large part because it represents the end of official isolation for Cuba as President Raúl Castro will attend the summit.

Balnca TreviñoOn Friday, at the CEO Summit, Obama joins Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela, and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto for the final panel.

Additional high-profile summit participants include Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, and Vince Cerf, Vice President and Chief Technology Evangelist of Google.

Treviño will be joining Orlando Dovat of Zoneamerica; Raymundo Peixoto of Dell Latin America; Denise Rutherford, President, Latin America for 3M; and Marco Stefanini, CEO of Stefanini, on a panel discussion on “Innovation & Information Technology: Reimagining the future of the Americas.”

With numerous competitive advantages in the region, such as lower cost skilled labor and the growth of startup activity that has attracted investment capital from foreign investors, Latin America has experienced unprecedented growth in the IT sector. But how will Latin American countries keep up with the growth? How will they continue to educate a new generation of skilled technology workers, and how can government and the IT sector collaborate to close the digital divide?

Treviño and fellow panelists will tackle these and other issues during their session which takes Thursday, April 9th at 5:05 pm CDT / 6:05 pm EDT. All presentations will be streamed in real time via the following links: http://www.livestream.com/idbevents1 or http://www.livestream.com/idbevents2.

For more information on the agenda you can visit the conference website, or refer to the agenda for speakers and times.
