Digital disruption and the cognitive age are driving organizations to rethink the boundaries that define industries and traditional sectors. Cognitive computing and AI increase human capabilities and help generate ideas for organizations to act and respond to an ever-changing market.

More than ever, organizations must reinvent themselves and evaluate their competitive positions within evolving ecosystems, exploring new ways of working.

Advantages of cognitive computing in business

Cognitive computing has almost infinite possibilities to improve business processes and functions. It not only makes operations simpler, improved, and more profitable, but can also get new forms of innovation to expand revenue opportunities.

While traditional analytics can provide data-driven information, cognitive computing turns these ideas and data into recommendations. You can understand unstructured information, such as images, natural language, and sounds found in books, emails, tweets, blogs, audio and video files.

What’s more, cognitive systems can reason through data to unlock meaning, iteratively learn to enhance more informed actions, and interact to break down barriers between humans and machines. Ultimately, these capabilities can fuel unique and essential user experiences.

A new Spending Guide from IDC found that global spending on cognitive platforms will rise from about $3 billion in 2016 to more than $31 billion in 2019.

The importance of cognitive computing

For this reason and for many other advantages is that the 73% global CEOs, surveyed for an IBM study, said that cognitive computing will play a very important role for the future in their organizations.

According to the IBM study, 50% of the CEOs surveyed said they were planning to adopt cognitive computing by 2019, and the 15% said they believe there will be a 15% return on investment of their cognitive initiatives.

Areas where you can invest in cognitive computing

It is clear that investment in cognitive computing is expected to produce a significant competitive advantage in addition to financial returns. However, there are certain areas where THE CEOs surveyed from the IBM study are willing to invest more in cognitive computing, and areas where less will be invested.

Atomian and its cognitive computing software

There are many companies that are currently using cognitive technology, Atomian is one of them.

Atomian is a technology research company, born in Barcelona, that is responsible for developing and marketing software products based on cognitive computing. Its software is able to transform all the information of an organization into knowledge and give answers in seconds to any query in natural language.

Thanks to this software, the time spent in data analysis and the preparation of company reports can be reduced, which means less effort on the part of professionals.

As Miquel Montero, CEO and founder of Atomian, said, “Atomian will not only improve people’s productivity in their workplace, reducing time and costs, but will also promote a world in which people will have more quality of life and time to be able to more creative and intrinsically human tasks.”

This tool can be crucial and helpful for businesses, as it could help them with data interpretation and extraction. In fact, the goal of the software is to humanize the data to give companies back control over their information.
